London & South East Branch News

From Pawel Adamus

The London & South-East Branch of HCA held its Autumn meeting on Tuesday 11 September at Brakes’ offices in Covent Garden. The location was very much appreciated and our thanks go to Brakes for hosting the meeting. Paul Coulson, Branch Chair, opened the meeting and issued a new Membership certificate to Elaine Janas (see photo). We then moved to our speakers, with Dr Mable Blades speaking to Members about ‘Healthier Eating for People with Diabetes’ – a topic that was discussed from a professional as well as personal perspective – followed by Mandy van Hagen, Marketing Sector Manager Corporate at Brakes, discussing innovative solutions for coffee shops within the NHS, as well as Brakes’ own-brand modified texture meals.

The Branch update was next, focusing on the year as a whole. The last few months have been very good for the Branch in terms of Membership growth and Member engagement.

The meeting ended with discussions about the recent NHS pay-deal, which is also being discussed amongst other Branches. Band 1 employees are meant to be upskilled to Band 2 from December 2018, but there is an overall lack of guidance, so we have contacted the Executive Committee for their thoughts and advice.

As usual, our guests were treated to a drink (or two) in a nearby bar following the meeting and we would like to thank our Associate Members for picking up the tab.

Plans for 2019 will be in place by the time we meet again at our AGM on 13 November (2–4pm) at the Strand Palace Hotel in Central London – and we look forward to seeing you there. Our Branch officers are confident that next year will continue on the same path as the last two.
