Feeding Mishaps - Hospital Chef

Hospital Food gets some negative headlines but the perception is improving as we work to demonstrate the reality of rising food standards with many good examples of how we're improving the quality of the food in hospitals. 

This humorous video started the HCA 2016 L&D Forum Session on: 'Complaints or compliments - which are more important to the Caterer?', to demonstrate what can go wrong - and so highlighting issues of where there's been a poor (or perhaps indeed, a resultant great), patient experience.

As endorsed by the Food Standards regulations across the 4 Nations, it is crucial that hospitals and healthcare establishments provide good quality, high standard, nutritious and appealing food. The standard of catering in hospitals is of the highest priority to hospital caterers and hospital food is an essential part of patient care. Good food can encourage patients to eat well, giving them the nutrients they need to recover from surgery or illness.

The HCA is calling for the caterer to take control of the patients' food and nutrition from admittance through to discharge, and focusing on the ward end service - the last few steps of the food journey - in the HCA led initiative known as the 'Last 9 Yards'. Importantly, this means working collaboratively with our patients, caterers, dietitians, therapists, like minded associations and the various governments and partners to ensure we get the food 'right', and deliver the very best service, and with our suppliers to attain the best price.
