20th October 2021

Dear NHS Colleagues

‘National Healthcare Estates and Facilities Day’ – A More Detailed Proposal

Further to our previous letter of 24th September we wanted to update you on our plans for the inaugural “National Healthcare Estates and Facilities Day”. Can we begin by thanking you for your kind support of this proposal so far.

In our first letter we suggested that 20th October would become National Healthcare EFM Day but in view of the rather short time and the initial feedback we received, we had a rethink and looked a bit further ahead to ensure we could all have time to plan fully and give the day the commitment and support it warranted. We have now agreed that the day will be celebrated each year on the third Wednesday in June. This will mean that in 2022 the first National Healthcare Estates and Facilities Day will be celebrated on 15th June.

We are also pleased to announce that the joint associations who initially came together to drive this proposal have now grown in number as we have been joined by the Institute of Decontamination Sciences and the Society of Hospital Linen Services and Laundry Managers. We will continue to welcome new partners who share an interest in promoting the vital work of the Estates and Facilities staff in healthcare across the UK.

We are delighted to tell you that we have chosen today to launch the National Healthcare EFM Day campaign and we will be publicising this across our own associations’ media platforms today and over the coming weeks. We would like to keep you fully informed of our more detailed proposals as they progress, in readiness for the 15th June next year. If you have any contacts of colleagues you would like us to directly engage with, we will be happy to do that and we fully understand how valuable your time is.

We would like to thank you again, in advance, for your continued support of this very important day to perennially mark the essential contribution the staff you represent make every day across your national healthcare services.

On behalf of the Joint Associations
Yours sincerely,
