Cycle Challenge logo£10,000 + and still counting...! HCA National 2016 L&D Forum Secretary, Amanda Cartmill says, "We are thrilled to bits. Who would have thought that our idea of a Sponsored Cycle Ride would generate so much interest and support?"

The 2016 Forum Challenge really demonstrated the value of 'collaboration in action', that is, how 'We get by' – BETTER - 'with the little help from our friends'.

Carmel BonnerPromoting engagement with the Members and the sharing of best practice and networking opportunities, each year the Hospital Caterers Association (HCA) National Forum and Exhibition presents HCA Members with a Theme and a Challenge. Hosted by the Merseyside and North Wales Branch of the HCA, the Theme for the HCA's 2016 Leadership & Development Forum was 'With a little help from my friends', and with that in mind, the Challenge for the 2016 Forum was a Sponsored Charity Cycle Ride, going from hospital to hospital, from Glasgow, to North Wales, to Liverpool.

"Launched at the end of the L&D Forum in Glasgow in April 2015, our combined effort realised a total of more than £10,000, covering 600 miles, and involving teams from as far afield as the Northern Ireland Branch who held a Sponsored Walk organised by Elsa Witherspoon, the 2017 L&D Forum National Secretary and concluded with Euan McGregor from Moffatt and Craig Holland who cycled 80 miles from the West Midlands who arrived at the ACC in Liverpool on Wednesday 13 April," continues Mandy.

"The Forum Management Team [FMT] is delighted with the massive engagement from 'our friends' to help in our fundraising effort for our two nominated Charities, Awyr Las and Claire House Children's Hospice, and this tremendous support was not just for the Cycle Ride. Our Cycle Challenge captured the hearts and minds and generated momentum from the launch in Scotland, right up to the Forum at the ACC in Liverpool, where we doubled our fundraising efforts with monies accrued from the Charity Raffle and Auction of football memorabilia held in the President's Dinner."

And, the fundraiser for the 2016 L&D Challenge, Charity Raffle and Auction is the most money collected for an HCA nominated Charity, ever !!!!!

Cath Humes Sponsorship & Partnerships Manager, Awyr Las, says, "We are absolutely over the moon with the fantastic fundraising income you have achieved and wish to thank everyone very much on behalf of staff, patients and everyone who will benefit from your generosity." And from Tony Langan, Merseyside Corporate Fundraising Manager, Claire House Children's Hospice, "... thank you so much for last Thursday. I had a lovely time and I felt really welcome and well looked after by you and your associates. I genuinely enjoyed myself and thank you for your generous fundraising event.”

Mandy Cartmill concludes, "The FMT would like to once again thank everyone for their help and support with making this Forum a truly special event and working in the true spirit of 'With a little help from my friends', proving that collaborative working can achieve great things!!!!
